Tickner out of Great Britain team
Jo Pavey
Pavey was pre-selected for the World Championships
World Cross Country trials winner Frank Tickner has opted out of next month's championships in Kenya to concentrate on his finals at Birmingham University.

But women's trials winner Kate Reed will go to the event after being named in the 15-strong Norwich Union Great Britain team for Mombasa on 24 March.

Hayley Yelling and Jo Pavey had been pre-selected for the team along with European men's title winner Mo Farah.

Britain are taking a full complement of nine men and six women to the finals.

UK Athletics senior co-ordinator for endurance Spencer Barden said: "There was never much doubt that we would have a full women's team.

"We have four of the athletes who helped us win the team silver at the European Championships in December, plus the athletes who finished second and fourth at the trials.

"They amount to a mix of experience and youth that epitomises the strength in depth in women's endurance running in the UK.

"We are taking a full team of men in support of Mo Farah but it is significant that the vast majority are young enough to improve with this unique experience.

Former European cross country champion Jon Brown elected not to take part in the event. It is in an area affected by malaria and he did not want to start taking injections.

GB men's team:
Alan Buckley (Gateshead Harriers), Mo Farah (Newham and Essex Beagles), Phil Nicholls (Tipton Harriers), Ben Noad (Highgate Harriers), Michael Skinner (Blackheath Harriers and Bromley AC), Chris Thompson (Aldershot, Farnham and District), Steve Vernon (Stockport Harriers), Jason Ward (Altrincham AC), Phil Wicks (Belgrave Harriers).

Women's team:
Elle Baker (South London Harriers), Hatti Dean (Hallamshire Harriers Sheffield), Felicity Milton (Durham University), Jo Pavey (Exeter Harriers), Kate Reed (Bristol and West AC) and Hayley Yelling (Windsor, Slough, Eton and Hounslow AC).
