Turnbull plans to run at the Irish Indoor Championships next month
Gareth Turnbull continued his build-up to next month's Irish Indoor Championships in Belfast by winning a 5K road race in Florida on Saturday.

Turnbull was a comfortable winner of the St Augustine 5K event in 14 minutes and 25 seconds which left him 15 seconds ahead of the runner-up.

"I kept things steady the whole way. It felt nice and all systems go for next weekend in New York," said Turnbull.

The Belfast athlete will have an indoor outing over a mile in the Big Apple.

Turnbull is currently in Florida training alongside former European Indoor 3000m champion Mark Carroll.

After next weekend's outing at the Armory Indoor Centre in New York, he may have a further US indoor a week later before returning home for the Irish Championships on 17/18 February.
