 Kluft has not lost a major heptathlon competition since 2002 |
Swedish heptathlon star Carolina Kluft and Portuguese sprinter Francis Obikwelu have been named European athletes for 2006. Kluft pipped Belgium's European 100m and 200m champion Kim Gevaert and Russia's pole vault record holder Yelena Isinbayeva to the award.
Obikwelu finished ahead of Lithuanian discus thrower Virgilijus Alekna, who won the 2005 award.
The awards were voted for by member federations, the media and the public.
