Aileen McGillivary previously worked for the Scottish Institute of Sport

Aileen McGillivary, who currently works for the Scottish Institute of Sport, is taking up a new post with UK Athletics.

The post will see her combine the duties of two roles, as performance manager and talent development manager.

McGillivary, who has been high performance manager with the SIS since 2000, said she was "excited" at the prospect of her new role.

"The role is similar to the one I performed whilst working for the Scottish Institute of Sport and this puts me in an ideal position to be able to continue some of the good work that has already been put in place," she said.

"It is exciting to be part of the support network around the World Class Pathway throughout the UK on behalf of UK Athletics and I am looking forward to starting the role."

Roger Harkins, coach of Commonwealth 400m hurdles bronze medallist Lee McConnell, welcomed her appointment.

"Aileen is very proficient in her job - she's possibly the best person that we have worked with in the Scottish Institute of Sport," he said.

"Perhaps as a former athlete she has a greater understanding of what needs to be put in place, but Lee and I have worked well with her for a couple of years."

Dave Collins, performance director for UK Athletics, said McGillivary would "provide the bridge for developing athletes moving onto the World Class Performance plan".
