Stoke's Nelson clocked 21.14 seconds to win bronze |
Great Britain's Alex Nelson claimed bronze in the 200m at the IAAF World Junior Championships after winner Dmytro Ostrovsky was disqualified. Nelson, 18, from Stoke, finished fourth in Beijing but was promoted to third after it emerged that Ukraine's Ostrovsky had stepped out of his lane.
"You get breaks sometimes and good luck comes your way," Nelson said.
Nelson's bronze added to the 100m gold won by Harry Aikine-Aryeetey's and Martyn Rooney's bronze in the 400m.
"Even though I didn't win, I'm the centre of controversy. It is always unfortunate because you never mean to run out of your lane," Nelson added.
"At first I felt I was picking up a medal for only finishing fourth - but the rules are there and it's what can happen in these races.
"I was resigned to fourth place but now I've got a medal I'm happy. You never want to come to a championships and leave without a medal."
Vikki Hubbard, 17, made it through to Sunday's high jump final with a height of 1.81m, but Jessica Leach crashed out after clearing only 1.78m.
Heptathletes Dominique Blaize and Jade Surman were lying sixth and ninth after the first four disciplines.
