McKee claims fine win in Dublin
Paul McKee
McKee ran a sub-46 second 400m in Dublin last weekend
Paul McKee warmed up for the European Championships by claiming an impressive win over highly-rated South African Ofentse Mogawana in Dublin on Saturday.

McKee's time of 46.28 was a commendable run in the windy conditions and left him ahead of Mogowana (46.41) who clocked 45.11 in Italy last weekend.

Anna Boyle was pipped in the final stride of the 200m by South African Heidi Seyerling who clocked 24.01.

In the wind, Paul Brizzel clocked 11.11 in the 100m to take second.

The race, which was run into a virtual gale, was won by South African Morne Nagel 10.97.

Behind McKee and Mogowana in the 400m was David McCarthy whose season's best of 46.61 will have been encouraging for Ireland's 4x400m replay prospects in Gothenburg.

Paul Hession proved his fitness for the European Championships by winning the 200m in 21.21 where he finished ahead of Nagel.

World Junior Championship hopeful Chris Quinn of Lagan Valley showed that he is in good form by winning the B 400m in 49.40.

Amy Foster, who will join Quinn and Jason Smyth in the Ireland team travelling to Beijing, did not race on Saturday as a precaution because of a tight hamstring.

Also at the meeting, Rhiannon McNally set a new Northern Ireland hammer record of 51.00 metres.
