Hansen last competed in June 2004 |
Triple jumper Ashia Hansen is set to compete for the first time in two years at the weekend in the Norwich Union European Trials in Manchester. The 34-year-old ruptured a tendon in her left knee while competing at the European Cup in Poland in June 2004.
Hansen said: "I can't wait to get back to competing, it's been a frustration to have two seasons out due to injury.
"I've missed international competition and I'm excited about the prospect of being involved at the top level again."
The Birchfield Harrier underwent three operations after damaging tendons in her left kneecap following a bad landing on a jump.
Hansen, who also won gold at the 2002 Commonwealth Games, admitted she had considered retiring during her lengthy lay-off.
"This year is all about dusting off the cobwebs and getting back into shape," she added.
"I love what I do and, once I got going again, there wasn't really an issue.
"I have had a lot of people asking me how long I am going on for and when I am going to retire and all because of my age."
Also competing in Manchester will be Hansen's training partner former US athlete Tiombe Hurd, who is eligible to compete due to her British residency.
Coverage from the European trials in Manchester on Saturday 15 July on BBC One from 1645 (BST) and on BBC Two on Sunday 16 July from 1645.
