American star Gatlin said he was suffering from a mild strain |
Olympic and World 100m champion Justin Gatlin has withdrawn from Monday's Athens Grand Prix with a leg injury. Organisers told reporters on Sunday that the 24-year-old American sprinter had sustained a "mild strain".
They also said Jamaican Commonwealth champion Asafa Powell had turned down an invitation to replace Gatlin because of a hamstring strain.
Powell, who shares the world record of 9.77 seconds with Gatlin, set his world mark at last year's Athens meeting.
