James McIlroy failed to make an impact in the Oslo meeting

The Larne runner was over five seconds behind winner Mohammed Al Azemi of Kuwait in a disappointing time of 1.50.06 minutes.

James Nolan was a solid fourth in the 1500m in 3.38.51, two seconds behind winner Brimin Kipruto of Kenya.

McIlroy opened his summer season by finishing fifth in Sunday's FBK-Games in Hengelo in 1:48.21.

The 29-year-old was fancied for a medal at the Commonwealth Games in March but he suffered a major disappointment by failing to qualify for the 800m final.

Karen Shinkins was a disappointing eighth in the women's 400m in a time of 52.86 which left her well behind winner Sanya Richards (49.82).

Those ahead of Shinkins, who clocked 51.9 in Doha recently, included Britain's Nicola Sanders who finished in 51.81.
