Powell managed a time of 9.95 seconds in Jamaica last week

World and Olympic champion Gatlin clocked 9.76 seconds in Doha to lower Powell's mark, set last June in Athens by one-hundredth of a second.

"He borrowed the record but I will get it back - I am capable of running 9.60 and I am in my best ever shape," Powell told the IAAF website.

The pair will race at Gateshead on 11 June in the British Grand Prix.

Powell ran 9.95secs on his first serious outing of the season last week in Kingston after recovering from a groin injury.

He led Jamaica to an impressive victory over in the 4x100m relay in Saturday's Felix Sanchez Invitational in the Dominican Republic.

"I never felt so well. That is why I can say I will get the record back," added the Commonwealth champion after the win over a US quartet and a host nation side at the Caribbean venue.
