Cardiff AAC's Rhys Williams has added a 4x400m silver to his 400m hurdles gold at the European Under-23 Championship in Erfurt, Germany. Williams will now bid for the UK Athletics qualifying time of 49.2 seconds for the hurdles at the World Championships in Helsinki next month.
Williams, 21, overcame a heavy hit on the last hurdle to set a lifetime best time of 49.6 seconds in his gold run.
"I thought I'd lost it," said the son of ex-Wales and Lions wing JJ Williams.
"I've been coming on to hurdles too early, but I wanted it so badly and had the self belief that I was fastest."
The gold medal completes a hat-trick for the Welshman, who won the European Youth Olympics in 2001 and the European Juniors title in 2003.
