Marathon world record-holder Paula Radcliffe will also target gold in the 10,000m at next month's World Championships in Helsinki. "My main focus is the marathon," said the 31-year-old Briton.
"The 10,000 is the lesser thing and can be dropped but at the moment I'm hoping I can have a good run out there and move on to the marathon strongly."
Darren Campbell was named captain of the Great Britain team after being included in the 4x100m relay squad.
Radcliffe is tempted to try and double up despite her disappointment at the Olympics last year.
She was a strong favourite for the marathon but failed to complete the course and then subsequently failed to finish the 10,000m.
"I don't think anything's going to make up for or change last year," said Radcliffe.
"Last year happened, I'm never going to be happy about it but I've moved on from it and put it behind me."
Radcliffe, who has recovered from a back problem which was hampering her earlier in the year, insisted her decision to double up again was purely for practical reasons.
"It's nothing to do with last year. It was just something that was offered this year by the timetable," said the 31-year-old.
The 10,000m takes place on the first day of the World Championships on Saturday, 6 August, with the marathon on Sunday, 14 August.
Campbell, bronze medallist at the last World Championships, failed to reach the 100m final at the British trials but his inclusion means the Olympic gold medal-winning quartet from Athens are all present.
Marlon Devonish, disqualified from the 100m trials after a false start, will join Jason Gardener and Mark Lewis-Francis in the shorter sprint, and double up in the 200m.
Wales' European Under-23 hurdles gold medallist Rhys Williams is selected for the 400m hurdles, while Phillips Idowu will join Nathan Douglas in the triple jump if he proves his fitness.
Olympic heptathlon bronze medallist Kelly Sotherton will also compete in the individual long jump as well as her main event.
Great Britain have been hit by a series of withdrawals and the 52-strong is less than in previous years.
Kelly Holmes, Hayley Tullett and Chris Rawlinson are some of the athletes that have pulled out.
