Lewis-Francis misses out in Milan
Mark Lewis-Francis in Madrid
Lewis-Francis was competing for the first time since his public warning
Britain's Mark Lewis-Francis finished second in the 100m in Milan on Wednesday, his first race since cannabis was found in his system.

The 22-year-old sprinter was beaten by a late surge by Jamaica's Patrick Jarrett, who clocked 10.36 seconds.

Lewis-Francis (10.40secs) finished just ahead of Nigeria's Uchenna Emedolu, with Darren Campbell (10.49secs) fifth.

Lewis-Francis escaped with a warning after testing positive for cannabis at the European Indoor Championships.

Although he was stripped of the silver medal he won over 60m in Madrid.

A renowned uncertain starter, Lewis-Francis looked anxious after Campbell false-started.

He was trailing for the first 20m but he powered to the front of the field before Jarrett made a last-ditch spurt.

There's still a lot of improvement to come and the track here didn't help... it felt like running on cement

Lewis-Francis, who has spent the past couple of weeks training in Madrid, was in confident mood after his second place.

"There were some good guys out there and I felt positive and focused throughout the race," he said.

"I've done no speedwork yet," he added. "Most of my time has been spent building up my strength over 150 and 200m.

"It wasn't the greatest of runs, but I'm most definitely not going to worry about losing.

"There's still a lot of improvement to come and the track here didn't help. It felt like running on cement, it was so tough."
