Wind blows Bekele bid off course | | Strong winds prevented Kenenisa Bekele from breaking his 10,000m world record at the Thales-FBK Games in Holland. The Olympic champion, who set the record of 26mins 20.31secs in Ostrava last June, still managed to ran the fourth fastest time in history. Bekele hit the front just 2,000m into the 25-lap race, tracked by compatriot Abebe Dinkessa. He remained on schedule until just before the halfway point when the wind finally blew his record bid off course.
Britain's James McIlroy finished third in the men's 800m, behind winner Alex Kipchirchir of Kenya and Youssef Saad of Bahrain.
