Kluft wants to win European gold at home in Gotheburg |
Olympic and world heptathlon champion Carolina Kluft will not compete indoors in 2006 in order to focus on winning gold at the European Championships. The 22-year-old Swede has been suffering from cramps which have affected her training schedule.
"I am disappointed because I love competing, but the Europeans are the highlight of the year," Kluft said.
Kluft's place in the long jump at the Glasgow International on 28 January has now been filled by Tatyana Kotova.
The Russian followed up her Olympic long jump bronze by claiming silver at the World Championships last summer and will face British talent Kelly Sotherton, Jade Johnson and Gillian Cooke in the event.
"We are disappointed but there is still plenty to look forward to," a spokesman for the Glasgow event told BBC Sport.
Sweden will now take on Great Britain, Italy, Russia and a Commonwealth select side without Kluft at Kelvin Hall.
Kluft's decision not to compete indoors this season means she will not try and regain her World Indoor pentathlon title in Moscow, leaving France's Eunice Barber as favourite.
