Gardener breaks UK indoor record
Jason Gardener
Gardener is targeting 1000m gold at the Commonwealth Games
Jason Gardener started the year in top form by setting two UK indoor national 100m records at Sunday's Bath Games.

Gardener stormed home in a time of 10.30 seconds in the qualifying round to beat Mark Lewis-Francis' record of 10.34 set in 2003 in Birmingham.

The 'Bath Bullet', who also won two 60m races at his home event, then improved the record to 10.29 in the final.

European Under-23 100m gold medallist Craig Pickering showed his potential by coming second in a time of 10.52.

Gardener, the reigning world and European champion for 60m, clocked winning times of 6.65 and 6.63 in the shorter races.

Pickering posted a personal best of 6.74 in the first 60m sprint to finish ahead of world youth 100m and 200m champion Harry Aikines-Aryeetey.

The 17-year-old Aikines-Aryeetey then struck half-a-second off his previous best, finishing in 6.73 with Pickering third in 6.77, in the second race.
