Haile Gebrselassie will mount an attack on the marathon world record at the ING Amsterdam Marathon on 16 October, his manager Jos Hermens has announced. The Ethiopian believes the fast course offers him his best chance of bettering Kenyan Paul Tergat's global mark of two hours four minutes and 55 seconds. Double Olympic 10,000m champion Gebrselassie is quitting championship track running to focus on marathons. He won the Great Manchester run in a UK All-comers 10k record time on Sunday.
