Olympic sprint relay champion Mark Lewis-Francis has vowed to win a medal at this summer's World Championships.

The 22-year-old, who won silver in the 60m at the European Indoor Championships last month, is now looking forward to the outdoors season.

"I've had a disappointing couple of years and not lived up to my expectations," said the 22-year-old.

"I've trained hard this winter. I want to prove my critics wrong. I'm going to get a medal this time - definitely."

Lewis-Francis is racing in the Penn Relays in Philadelphia on Saturday along with fellow gold medallist Jason Gardener, who beat him at the European Indoors.

Gardener, now 29, is also determined to make an impression in the World Championships in Helsinki.

"I really want to realise my full potential and that's my main focus this summer - to fulfil my true worth.

"That's what it's all about - raising your level of competiveness on great occasions and producing special performances."
