Radcliffe is still suffering with bronchitis |
World marathon record holder Paula Radcliffe has withdrawn from the Seven Hills race in Nijmegen on 20 November. Radcliffe, 31, was due to make her return to road racing but is still recovering from bronchitis.
The 15km event would have been Radcliffe's first serious race since winning the marathon gold medal at the Helsinki World Championships in August.
"Unfortunately, Paula is not in the best of shape," said her manager and husband Gary Lough.
"Even if she is able to train for 100% until 20 November, she will never reach the fitness level that she wants to have to run a quality race such as the Seven Hills race.
"Paula's aim for this 15km road race was to run really fast, but as a result of the bronchitis she has been suffering from, she is not fit enough to do so."
Radcliffe has been suffering with bronchitis since the Nike 10K run in London in September.
She has been nursing a high temperature which has also prevented her from training and led to her decision to pull out of the National Road Relays.
She has yet to announce whether she will compete for the Norwich Union GB team set for the Chiba Ekiden relays in Japan on 23 November.
"We haven't made a decision about that yet," said Lough. "At the moment we are just playing everything from day to day."
