Tatyana Tomashova defended her 1500m title at the World Championships. The Russian, who was beaten narrowly by Dame Kelly Holmes at last year's Olympics, kicked for home over the last 30m to win in four minutes 35 seconds.
Her Russian team-mate Yuliya Chizhenko had finished in second place but was later disqualified for obstruction.
Olga Yegorova was promoted to silver and France's Bouchra Ghezielle was awarded the bronze while Britain's Helen Clitheroe finished 10th.
Tomashova said there were no tactics employed between her compatriots.
"It felt great and I'm so happy," she said Tomashova.
"All of the Russian competitors were very strong just like I knew they were going to. We didn't agree on anything. Everyone ran for herself."
