Dwight Phillips made short work of the defence of his long jump title, sealing the gold with his very first attempt at the World Championships in Helsinki. The 27-year-old American added a second World title to his Olympic crown by landing 8.60m in his opening jump to equal his personal best.
Ghana's Ignisious Gaisah closed the gap to claim silver with 8.34m and set a new national record in the process.
The biggest cheers were reserved for Finland's Tommi Evila who took bronze.
Evila, who also plays in a rock band, moved up to third with his penultimate jump of 8.25m.
There were no late fireworks from Phillips as, after moving so far ahead of the field, he fouled all of his next five attempts.
