World number one Nadezhda Ostapchuk claimed an expected shot put gold at the World Championships in Helsinki. The Belarussian stamped her authority on the event from her first round when she landed 20.30m but she bettered that with a final throw of 20.51m
Russia's Olga Ryabinkina took the silver medal with her third attempt when she reached 19.64m.
New Zealand 20-year-old Valerie Vili threw 19.62m twice to wrap up the podium places with bronze.
Defending champion Svetlana Krivelyova had to settle for fourth place while Olympic champion Yumileidi Cumba finished sixth.
"I was prepared to win with my first throw," said Ostapchuk. "Getting a good first throw is best for killing the competition.
"It was a very long way for me to this medal."
