Britain's James McIlroy failed to reach Sunday's 800m final at the World Championships after finishing seventh in a high quality semi-final. The 28-year-old Larne runner took the lead but got trapped on the inside and rapidly saw the field pass him.
McIllroy came home in a season's best of one minute 45.91 seconds but it was not enough to advance.
"It was a very fast race but I needed to be a second quicker," the Northern Ireland man told BBC Sport.
