America's Michelle Perry won a dramatic women's 100m hurdles final at the World Championships in Helsinki on Thursday. The 26-year-old took gold in 12.66 seconds to edge Jamaican duo Delloreen Ennis-London and Brigitte Foster-Hylton, who both clocked 12.76.
Olympic champion Joanna Hayes, Perry's training partner, looked set for a medal but clipped the penultimate barrier and came home in last place.
Germany's Kirsten Bolm missed out on the podium by finishing fourth.
Perry admitted afterwards that she always felt she could claim the gold.
"I didn't know where the others were but I could feel them - but I know how strong I am at the end," she said.
"I felt when I woke up this morning that I was going to win."
