Davis in surprise triple jump win
Walter Davis celebrates his victory in Helsinki's Olympic Stadium
Walter Davis came out of nowhere to win triple jump gold for America at the World Championships in Helsinki.

Davis produced a season's best leap of 17.57m on his third attempt to stun Cuba's Yoandri Betanzos (17.42m) and Romania's Marian Oprea (17.40m).

"I was trying to catch a wind. I caught a nice wind and I hit a big one," said Davis, a former basketball player.

"After my big jump I started looking at my watch, because I was telling myself this is my year, this is my time."
