Walter Davis came out of nowhere to win triple jump gold for America at the World Championships in Helsinki. Davis produced a season's best leap of 17.57m on his third attempt to stun Cuba's Yoandri Betanzos (17.42m) and Romania's Marian Oprea (17.40m).
"I was trying to catch a wind. I caught a nice wind and I hit a big one," said Davis, a former basketball player.
"After my big jump I started looking at my watch, because I was telling myself this is my year, this is my time."
