Williams narrowly missed out on a personal best |
Cardiff's Rhys Williams was satisfied with his performance at the World Championships despite failing to reach the 400m hurdles final on Sunday. The 21-year-old finished sixth in the semi-final with a time of 49.67 seconds - just outside his personal best.
"I tried to run my own race and felt I was running really well," said the Under-23 European champion.
"But these guys are on a different level. I know where I need to be now, but it's been a great experience."
Williams, competing in his first senior international, revealed he had almost pulled out after injuring his hamstring during the warm-up.
But he said: "The last thing I wanted to do was miss an opportunity like this.
"The Commonwealth Games (next year) is what I'm going for now."
