Lewis-Francis looks for momentum
Mark Lewis-Francis
MLF has been disappointed with his form
Mark Lewis-Francis is out to prove he is Europe's top sprinter as he heads Great Britain's bid to win the Spar European Cup in Florence this weekend.

The 22-year-old was well below par in Athens on Tuesday, failing to make the final in which Jamaican Asafa Powell broke the 100m world record.

"It's true I had a really bad day at the office," said Lewis-Francis.

"Now I'm glad I have a race so quickly afterwards, to put it behind me and score maximum points for the side."

For the first time, the meeting will extend over three days, allowing the 5,000m and 3,000m steeplechase competitors to run in the cool of the evening.

Friday's opening session sees Britain's Chris Davies and Stuart Stokes compete on the track, while Ben Challenger and Andy Frost take part in the high jump and hammer throw.

Germany are favourites to win the European Cup with France and Britain tipped to contend.
