Brizzel will be looking to improve his form as Athens approaches |
Olympic Games-bound Paul Brizzel lost out to his Irish rival Paul Hession in the 200m at Friday's Dublin International Games at Santry. Despite winning in 20.96, Hession, who also won the 100m, fell short of the Athens qualifying mark of 20.59 which Brizzel has achieved.
Brizzel took second in 21.03 ahead of another Irishman Gary Ryan (21.09).
Lisburn athlete Kelly McNeice ran a solid 800m to take third in 2:03.78 behind Russia star Olga Raspopova.
The windy conditions didn't help the prospects of those Irish athletes chasing Olympic qualifying times.
Rob Daly took second in the 400m in 46.57 which left him adrift of Britain's Jared Deacon 46.33 while David McCarthy was fourth in 47.02..
Ciara Sheehy's time of 24.04 was over a second outside the 200m mark in a race won by South Africa's Olympic 400m finalist Heide Seyerling in 23.68.
Fresh from his sensational performance in Algiers on Thursday night when he achieved the Olympic standard with an Irish record leap of 2.30m, Adrian O'Dwyer jumped 2.10m before deciding to opt out of the Dublin competition.
Another Athens-bound competitor, James Nolan won the Morton Mile in 3:59.99.
