 Tomlinson's UK record is 8.27m |
UK long jump record holder Chris Tomlinson was second behind reigning world champion Dwight Phillips at the IAAF Grand Prix meeting in Seville. The 22-year-old jumped 8.05m into a stiff head wind while Phillips nailed a distance of 8.23m.
"It was a who's who of present-day long jumping out there, so Chris' performance has to be good news," said Tomlinson's coach Peter Stanley.
Belgrave Harrier Chris Lambert was third in the 200m in 20.74 seconds.
His time was just inside the Olympic 'B' standard but he will need to beat the 'A' mark of 20.59secs to have a chance of making the team for Athens.
