McEwen finished second at last year's US Championship |
US hammer throwers Melissa Price and John McEwen have both received two-year suspensions after being found guilty of taking banned steroid THG. The US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) announced the bans - the first for American athletes in the THG scandal - on Thursday.
"The decision confirms the work of all those who believe in drug-free sport," said USADA chief Terry Maden
Price's suspension began on 15 April, while McEwen's started on 19 April.
The panel concluded "the use of such a powerful anabolic steroid could be for no other purpose than to enhance an athlete's performance in violation of the spirit and absolute proscriptions of the IAAF 's doping rules."
Two other US athletes - shot putter Kevin Toth and runner Regina Jacobs - have also been named as testing positive for THG.
