Budapest brings rewards

Jason Gardener was obviously the big British success at the World Indoor Championships, but a few other people ran well too.

Jo Fenn and Michael East both performed well on Sunday and I thought East was unlucky to be disqualified.

Chris Tomlinson produced an excellent performance in the long jump, setting a new British record.

It was a world-class jump and he was bit unlucky not to finish with a medal because it was a very high-standard competition.

It was a shame that Kelly Holmes fell, because she was a big medal hope.

Gardener needs to have more confidence in himself, which hopefully his win will give him
There were also some big disappointments, like Jo Pavey.

I dont think she did herself justice and she will be very disappointed with the way she ran tactically in the 3,000m.

We could also have expected more from Carl Myerscough, who could have sneaked in and done something in the shot, and the 4x400m girls not even reaching their final was also disappointing.

Catherine Murphy has been struggling with a hamstring and she didnt look at her best on Saturday which was a shame because if she had been at her best she had a long shot at maybe getting a medal.

Looking ahead, hopefully Gardeners performance will set him up for a good summer.

Jo Fenn has a habit of running personal bests at championships, which is a pretty neat trick if you can do it
He has now proved that he can win a world title and he has been running consistently well all winter.

When he was in really good shape in the indoor season in the past he has gone on and run sub-10 second 100m and he has got to look towards doing that this summer.

Anyone who can run sub-10 this summer will be in with a good shout at the Olympics because standards have dropped in the 100m recently.

I still struggle to see why he cannot run a more consistent 100m outdoors and he needs to have more confidence in himself, which hopefully his win will give him.

After her bronze Jo Fenn will also be raring to go and although she might not look like she is really world class at the moment she has a habit of running personal bests at championships, which is a pretty neat trick if you can do it.

Despite what happened on Sunday, Jo Pavey should also be approaching the Olympics with a lot of confidence because she is in the top four or five in her event.

To sum up with World Indoors I would have to say fair-to-middling for Britain.

We were without a few of our big names, like Ashia Hansen, and given the small team we had to win two medals was a reasonable performance.
