Radcliffe eyes double glory

Radcliffe wants to compete in the 4km and the 8km in Brussels
Paula Radcliffe wants to be considered for both the 8km and 4km events at the World Cross Country Championships in Brussels on March 20-21.

The European Cross Country Champion made the request despite missing this weekend's UK Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships and World Trials.

Radcliffe is currently having her fitness assessed after finishing second at a 10km meeting in Puerto Rico.

She will decide nearer the time whether to contest either or both races.

Jo Pavey has accepted her invitation for the 4km race in Brussels but Hayley Tullett has declined the offer.

Helen Clitheroe, who is currently training in America, has asked to be considered.

In the men's section, John Mayock and Tom Mayo, who were offered automatic places, have decided not to compete.

At Saturday's Reebok UK Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships, Glynn Tromans will be going out for a record-equalling fourth consecutive victory.

The 12km event in Nottingham doubles as the world trials, with a top-three finish guaranteeing a place at this month's world championships.

Tromans has Jack Holden's four straight victories in the 1930s in his sights.

"It would be nice to get a fourth title - and even nicer to come back next year and get a fifth," said Tromans.

Tromans starts the event as favourite, while Hayley Yelling is the leading contender in the women's 8km race.
