Price is married to British shot putter Carl Myerscough |
Hammer thrower Melissa Price has become the fourth American athlete to test positive for THG, the United States Olympic Committee has confirmed. The US national champion, who is married to British shot putter Carl Myerscough, failed two separate tests for the banned steroid on 19 June and 29 July last year.
24-year-old Price has denied taking THG, and the USOC said she planned to appeal.
Myerscough himself served a two-year ban afer testing positive for anabolic steroids in 1999.
Four US athletes failed tests for THG at the US Track and Field Championships last June.
Although a number of American newspapers have suggested several names, Price is the first to be named by the USOC.
Britain's European 100m champion Dwain Chambers has also tested positive for the steroid.
Chambers has protested his innocence, his legal advisors stressing that there has never been an admission by their client that he took THG or any other banned substance.
The athlete has also claimed he was categorically assured that the only supplements he had been given were those which complied with world governing body the IAAF's anti-doping rules.
A federal jury is investigating the BALCO laboratory in San Francisco, which the United States Anti-Doping Agency believes to be the source of THG.
