McKiernan has won four World Cross County silver medals |
Ireland's Catherina McKiernan claimed a comfortable victory in Sunday's Margate International cross country meeting. McKiernan is now setting her sights on success at next month's European Cross Country Championships in Edinburgh.
The Cavan woman, winner of the inaugural European title in 1994, walked away from the sport three years ago after a long battle with injury.
But after getting married and having a baby, she embarked on her athletics comeback in January and, after a disappoining start, is now back in form.
McKiernan clocked a time of 17 minutes and 50 seconds on the 6km course to finish 15 seconds ahead of her Ireland team-mate Rosemary Ryan with French champion Laurence Duquenoy third.
Fourth was Bedford's Sharon Morris who will run alongside Paula Radcliffe next weekend in the Great Britain team at the Ekiden Road Relay in Chiba in Japan.
Seamus Power completed a double for Ireland by leading from start to finish in the men's 9.5km race.
He clocked 28:43 to finish six seconds ahead of Chelmsford's Adrian Mussett and former English national bronze medallist Billy Farquharson.
