Catherina McKiernan had to miss the Inter-Counties Cross Country |
Catherina McKiernan has been named on the Irish team for the European Cross Country Championships in Edinburgh on 14 December despite missing Sunday's National Inter Counties event.
McKiernan was forced to pull out of the Mullingar event because of 'flu but her recent win in Margate made her an automatic choice for selection.
The 1994 European winner will line up in a strong Irish team which includes Sonia O'Sullivan, Inter Counties winner Rosemary Ryan and Ann Keenan-Buckley.
The race will be the first time McKiernan and O'Sullivan have been named on a team together since the World Cross Country Championships in Turin in 1997 when both finished in the top 10 and led the Irish team to the bronze medal.
The men's team will be led by the record-breaking Seamus Power who won his 9th successive Inter Counties title on Sunday.
