McKiernan second in Belgium
Catherina McKiernan finished second in last month's BUPA Great Ireland Run
McKiernan has won four World Cross County silver medals

Catherina McKiernan showed solid form ahead of her expected challenge in next month's European Cross Country Championships by finishing second in a race in Belgium on Sunday.

McKiernan was second in the Belgian Cross Cup in Ghent, four seconds behind Belgium's Veerle Dejaeghere over the 5.3 kilometres course.

Twice European Cross Country winner McKiernan is expected to be joined in Edinburgh by Sonia O'Sullivan who has indicated that she will travel from her winter base of Melbourne for the event.

The presence of the two stars could put Ireland in contention for a team medal.

McKiernan finished second behind O'Sullivan at the BUPA Great Ireland Run in Dublin last month.
