Pavey sprints to victory
Jo Pavey
Pavey opened up a six-second gap in the final 200m
Jo Pavey put in a devastating late sprint to claim victory in the Reebok Cross Challenge in Liverpool.

The win means Pavey will be automatically chosen for the British team in next month's European Championships in Edinburgh.

Pavey opened up a six-second gap over the final 200m of the 6km race to beat English cross-country champion Hayley Yelling.

"I don't think that anyone is more shocked than me," admitted Pavey after her victory.

"It is not really like me to do cross-country and I have never had a good result in a big cross-country race."

The first three home were guaranteed a spot in the GB team with Kathy Butler clinching the third place for Edinburgh.

Before allocating the three remaining squad places on Tuesday, British selectors are waiting to hear of the availability of former European champion Paula Radcliffe.
