Tergat has finished second in three of his five marathons |
Five-times world cross country champion Paul Tergat will target Khalid Khannouchi's world best time in Sunday's Berlin Marathon. The Kenyan's best time of two hours five minutes 48 seconds is 10 seconds slower than that set by the American at the 2002 London marathon.
But Tergat thinks the Berlin course will suit him perfectly.
"Any world record can be broken. I believe I'm capable of running a very good time," said Tergat.
Tergat holds the world's best time for the half-marathon and is a former 10,000m world record holder.
But he has an unwanted reputation for just missing out on glory after finishing second in three of his five marathons and taking Olympic silver twice over 10,000m.
The Berlin marathon has produced four world best times in its history.
The course has been altered this year but organisers say it remains flat and fast.
