Realistically, Kelly Holmes' silver at Birmingham was as good a result as she could have hoped for. Holmes rarely makes an appearance on the indoor track but after an injury-free winter ran a British 1500m indoor record to finish behind world record holder Regina Jacobs.
The 33-year-old has looked sharp this season after spending the winter training in South Africa with Maria Mutola.
In the early part of the season she got in the groove breaking the 15-year-old national 800m record in Ghent.
Her time of 1:59.21 also made her the first British woman to break two minutes in a race in which she was only just edged out by Mutola.
