Greene equals indoor world record
Maurice Greene blazes to another record time
Maurice Greene blazes to another record time
Maurice Greene has equalled his own 60m world indoor record in the semi-finals at the USA Indoor Championships.

The reigning indoor and outdoor world champion clocked 6.39secs in the Georgia Dome, Atlanta on Saturday.

My plan this year is to break my world 100 record
  Maurice Greene
Greene was unable to improve the record in the final but did register his first US indoor title as he clocked 6.51secs in a race interrupted by three false starts.

He then re-iterated that he would not compete in the World Indoor Championships, saying: "It was never my intention to go to Lisbon. I never even brought my passport here with me.

"The reason I came here is I need motivation. My plan this year is to break my world 100 record and the time I achieved in the semi-final shows I'm going along the right lines to do this."

Greene, who set that mark of 9.79secs two years ago in Athens, admitted if he had not slowed in his semi-final he would have broken the current world mark.

Everything has been working out really well in training and it was a case of putting myself under the pressure of racing
  Maurice Greene
He said: "I slowed two strides before the line and if I hadn't done that I think I would have run at least 6.37. Don't ask me why I did it, I just don't know.

"I came here because I knew I was in world record shape. Everything has been working out really well in training and it was a case of putting myself under the pressure of racing."

Greene, in his first competition since winning Olympic 100m gold, had predicted beforehand that he would better the mark he set three years ago in Madrid.

"That was pretty good," he said.

"I only came out here to give my fans a great show.
