England's Hunt wins archery gold

World number one compound archer Nicky Hunt has revealed she is considering a switch to the recurve discipline.

A move to the alternative style of bow would give the Delhi double gold winner a chance of competing at London 2012.

She told BBC Radio Suffolk: "The GB coach is interested in me shooting the recurve bow, I'll certainly be looking to set up a date and see how it goes.

"After ticking some of the biggest boxes in my sporting career I've got to look at new challenges now."

The Ipswich archer, 25, had recently expressed her frustration over the lack of funding she receives for shooting in the compound discipline, which is down to it not being an Olympic sport.

Hunt took individual and team gold at this year's Commonwealth Games after the compound was invited as a guest competition at the event and finished the season as the world's top female competitor.

"I've shot the recurve bow as a junior for six or seven years and reached Great Britain standard so it's not going to be foreign to me," she continued.

"It's just different in how the bow is drawn, it gets heavier and heavier as you pull it and you have a piece of leather in your fingers to release the string with.

"But there's nearly two years to go until the Olympics so it's a possibility."

Hunt will train with Team GB archery coach Lloyd Brown before making her final decision.

American Brown coached the US 1996 and 200 Olympic archery teams.
