Wills defeated Terry 109-106 to reach the last 16 |
All six of Britain's recurve archers have been knocked out of the World Championships in Korea before reaching the medal stages. Alan Wills, who won world bronze two years ago, reached the last 16, beating team-mate Simon Terry in round three. But he then lost to China's Wenyuan Chen, while Larry Godfrey went out to Oibek Saidiyev in the third round. British women Naomi Folkard, Alison Williamson and Charlotte Burgess all lost in the second round. Williamson was beaten by Colombia's Sigrid Romero, while Folkard lost to Elena Kuznetsova of Belarus, who went on to make the quarter-finals. Burgess ran the sixth ranked Hsiao Ying Lin of Taipei close, before succumbing 108-106. And Britain's teams fared little better, both losing out in the first knockout round of their respective competitions. The men tied with Russia on 216, but lost the three-arrow shoot-off 27-29. The women were comprehensively beaten 214-201 by the top-ranked Koreans.
