Board stupid
BBC Sport Online picks out some of the quirky, offbeat or plain daft stories doing the rounds.

Board stupid

Bog snorkelling and swamp football are among some of the more bizarre sports to have been given television coverage in the past.

But next month arguably the oddest yet is due to be unveiled - extreme ironing.

An iron
Ironing will now be like you've never seen it

The sport, which will feature on Channel 4, involves competitors tackling their laundry in bizarre situations such as on a rubber ring or while climbing up a cliff.

Although the English have struggled in more established sports like cricket, they are the current world champions in extreme ironing.

A 16-man strong team, including squad members such as Power Chord and Iron Matron, beat off nine other sides for the win in Germany recently.

Nude awakenings

Former tennis player Ilie Nastase has threatened he is on the verge of stripping off for the cameras.

Nastase may show more than just his tennis

The 56-year-old Romanian, known for his outbursts during his playing days, was speaking out after some of his countrymen were criticised for doing the same.

Recently three former national gymnasts posed nude for a Japanese magazine and Nastase is ready to follow suit.

"Personally I have nothing against it. I'm waiting for offers," he said.

"There is no shame in posing for artistic pictures. It is all a matter of personal taste."

Stockport's Nou-est fan

A Stockport dinner lady recently became the most talked about person in Barcelona simply by going to a game at the Nou Camp.

Stella Hughes, 64, was swamped by hordes of Spanish press when she became the 10 millionth visitor to the ground.

Ironically she only went because her husband had insisted on a visit during their stay in Spain.

As a prize she has been given a trip anywhere in the world to see Barcelona play.

Her husband Neville told the Manchester Evening News: "It's ironic that Stella was the one to win it, but I'm delighted for her, she's over the moon."
