Monday's WTA round-up

Dubai Open

Lina Krasnoroutskaya
Krasnoroutskaya had an ankle injury last season

Lina Krasnoroutskaya continued her comeback from injury with victory over Adriana Serra Zanetti in the first round.

The Russian, who reached the semi-finals in Qatar last week, beat the experienced Italian 6-3 6-0.

Krasnoroutskaya was the junior US Open and world champion in 1999 and reached the quarter-finals of the 2001 French Open at the age of 17.

But an ankle injury in last year's Australian Open sidelined her for much of the season.

In other matches on the opening day, Francesca Schiavone of Italy defeated Russia's Tatiana Panova 6-4 6-0.

And 17-year-old Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova saved a set point on her way to beating Iva Majoli of Croatia 7-6 (7-2) 6-2.

Justine Henin-Hardenne, Jennifer Capriati, Amelie Mauresmo and Monica Seles are the top four seeds in Dubai.

They have all received byes into the second round.

Kroger St Jude Classic

Third seed Amanda Coetzer came from a set down to beat Germany's Angelika Roesch.

Roesch took the first set 6-2, but Coetzer levelled the match on a tiebreak and then romped through the decider 6-1.

American Sarah Taylor, South Korea's Cho Yoon Jeong and fifth seed Vera Zvonareva were also first-round winners.
