| Monday, 14 October, 2002, 22:47 GMT 23:47 UK Dokic 'to miss Australian Open' ![]() Dokic says her busy schedule has left her tired Jelena Dokic will not play in next year's Australian Open as she cuts down her playing schedule, according to the BBC World Service. Dokic complained of tiredness after easing past Iva Majoli to reach the second round of the Swisscom Challenge. "I'm happy with today, but I've been so tired. "I've been playing in too many tournaments - it's the end of the year and I shouldn't be playing so much. "I haven't been playing my best tennis the last two or three weeks. I've really been feeling it since the US Open." Dokic missed last year's event after switching her allegiances from Australia to Yugoslavia, the country of her birth. She said Australia was too far and that travelling would take too much out of her. The Dokic family moved to Sydney from Belgrade in 1994 and Jelena quickly attracted interest from senior Australian tennis coaches because of her talent. But the family had a rocky relationship with Tennis Australia, and her father Damir claimed the 2000 Australian Open draw had been rigged against his daughter. There was no evidence of her tiredness against Majoli, however, as Dokic won in straight sets, 6-1 6-4. Meanwhile, Russia's Elena Dementieva evened an old score with German qualifier Anca Barna. Dementieva, who lost her only other match against Barna in three sets in the quarter-finals at Prostejov in 1999, this time won 6-2 7-5. Earlier, Russian Tatiana Panova eased past Luxembourg's Anne Kremer 6-4 6-2 and Spain's Conchita Martinez dispatched Swiss wildcard Myriam Casanova 6-4 6-3. The top four seeds, Jennifer Capriati, defending champion Lindsay Davenport, Amelie Mauresmo and Justine Henin, all had first-round byes and were not scheduled to play before Wednesday.
