Cardiff Blues face being without Kort Schubert for their Heineken Cup play-off against Italian opposition at the end of May. Back row man Schubert is wanted by the USA for their Churchill Cup campaign, which falls on official International Rugby Board dates.
The Blues are already unlikely to have their Lions trio Martyn Williams, Gethin Jenkins and Tom Shanklin.
But their Wales squad members will be released for the crucial match.
The Blues are hoping to arrange friendly fixtures to prepare for the one off play-off which guarantees qualification to next season's Heineken Cup competition.
Calvisano are likely to be the Welsh region's opponents in the match to be played at a neutral venue on the last weekend of May.
