Sale Sharks have signed Fiji international lock Wame Lewaravu on a two-year contract.

The 26-year-old has been capped 18 times for Fiji but has not played for his country since the 2007 World Cup.

Following his return from the tournament, he went on to play two seasons with London Welsh.

"He is a great athlete, good in the line out, loves to run with the ball and makes plenty of metres," said head coach Mike Brewer.

"I worked with Wame during the 2009 autumn internationals and I am delighted he has decided to join us. I am sure he will be a valuable addition to our squad for the new season."

Since leaving London Welsh in 2009, Lewaravu has played for Italian side Overmach Rugby Parma.

Sharks chief executive Mick Hogan said: "With the departure of club captain Dean Schofield, the club needed a quality replacement and Mike indentified Wame, having worked with him in the past.

"I am sure our supporters will like Wame and with more signings to be announced the interest in the club is building every day."
