Williams is a former Wales and Lions international |
Ospreys hooker Barry Williams has been ruled out of action until April because of a hip problem. The ex-Wales and Lions forward, 33, is to undergo an operation in the next few weeks that will keep him sidelined.
The loss of the 24-cap man will hit the regional side, who are battling for honours in the Heineken Cup, EDF Energy Cup and the Magners League.
But current Welsh international hookers Huw Bennett and Richard Hibbard are also on the Ospreys' books.
The west Glamorgan side also have Gavin Henson (hand) on the injury list for another three to five weeks, but hope to have Ryan Jones (shoulder) back by the end of the year.
Long-term knee injury victim David Bishop is edging closer to a regional return, the centre planning to play for Bridgend on Saturday.
