Ryan played for Newcastle and Wasps |
Dean Ryan has been hit with a 13-week touchline ban for verbally abusing referee Rob Debney after Gloucester's match against Saracens on 18 February. The Gloucester head coach was fuming as Sarries snatched a 24-22 win after being awarded an injury-time line-out from which they scored.
Ryan is now banned from the pitch, touchline, technical, tunnel and dressing room areas on match days.
The suspension runs until 31 May and also applies to the play-offs.
Ryan was found guilty of threatening and verbally abusing after remonstrating with Debney after the final whistle.
And the three-man RFU disciplinary panel found his conduct "prejudicial to the interests of the Union and the game".
Ryan, while head coach at Bristol, received a month-long match-day ban in October 2001 for criticising referee Tim Miller after a league game between Bristol and London Irish.
