Edinburgh have condemned Scottish Rugby's decision to axe the Border Reivers at the end of the season. A statement read: "Edinburgh Rugby is disappointed to see the reduction in the number of professional teams.
"We are now reviewing the implications in relation to our participation in the Magners League and in Europe.
"We are seeking an early meeting with representatives of the SRU. But we remain committed to the development of Edinburgh and the professional game."
Prior to Scottish Rugby's announcement, Edinburgh, who are privately owned, had voiced their frustration at their lack of involvement in the governing body's review.
"It is very regrettable that the Border Reivers is to close but it's important our pro teams get a chance of success and the only way to do that is to concentrate our resources," said SRU president Andy Irvine.
